The Problem
Christchurch Newport approached Bluegg to work with them to design and develop a new website. The existing site had a number of issues, both design and functionality wise. The design was dominated by dark colours and failed to effectively communicate the values and personality of the Church and its patrons, and the management of the site was spread across multiple platforms, making keeping it up to date difficult. The site also contained hundreds of hours of video and audio files, which weren't being used or managed properly.
The Solution
We started by refining the identity and colour pallete to help brighten the look of the site, and created a design style that was fresh, modern and suited the church's fun and vibrant personality. We used WordPress to manage the content, and we built a custom media browser to help them manage the video and audio files. We also created over 50 bespoke illustrations for use throughout the website which had a consistent design style and introduced personality to the site.
The Result
The new site has been embraced by the Christchurch community, with unique visitor and return visitor rates both increasing and bounce rate down. The new media section has become an important resource for both regular and new visitors to the site and the events calendar is helping spread the word of upcoming events. By putting in place a strong design style as well as a set of guidelines, the church has now taken ownership of the site, and is both managing and creating new content for it.
